Structured Products: Read the Payoff First

Published 2026-10-19 · BLOOMBERG WEALTH Research Desk

Translate coupons, barriers and issuer risk into scenarios.

Executive brief

A structured note combines issuer credit exposure with a contractual payoff. Conditional coupons or protection may not apply after barriers are breached.

Questions for due diligence

Read final terms and illustrate falling, flat and rising underlying prices. Include early redemption, maturity losses, fees and secondary-market liquidity.

Scenario framework

  • Base case: review the stated assumptions for fixed income and record which evidence would change the assessment.
  • Stress case: consider weaker returns, reduced liquidity and higher costs together. An illustrative scenario is not a forecast.
